Financial technology company, Fexco has today announced its support of the Irish men’s hockey team ahead of their Olympic campaign in Rio. As part of a major fundraising drive to support the team, Fexco will sponsor the international match series against the world number-two side, the Netherlands.
The two-match series will take place in University College, Cork on July 4th and 6th as part of a number of home international fixtures the ‘Green Machine’ has lined up in preparation for the Rio Olympics.
With the team still in their final preparation phase for Ireland’s ground-breaking Olympics programme in August, the Fexco Netherlands Match Series will see different players from the 21-man squad, compete in the 2 games.
Ireland starts their Rio programme against India on August 6th, and will play the London 2012 Olympics silver medallists, and European champions – the Netherlands, the following day. The Irish men’s team will be the first Irish hockey team to compete at an Olympics since 1908, and the first team sport to represent Ireland at an Olympic Games since 1948.
